GIP Ecofor's mission is to encourage, lead and promote research programmes and expertise, particularly on the functioning and management of temperate and tropical forest ecosystems. Le Groupement d'Intérêt Public Ecofor est une maison commune à la recherche et à la gestion des écosystèmes forestiers.
Le GIP Ecofor a pour mission de susciter, animer et valoriser des programmes de recherche et des expertises, notamment sur le fonctionnement et la gestion des écosystèmes forestiers tempérés et tropicaux.
Ecofor intervient dans des situations qui réclament une grande diversité de compétences et une forte synergie entre recherche et gestion, à la demande de ses membres, d'un ou plusieurs donneurs d'ordre ou sur sa propre initiative.
Il compte actuellement 12 membres, parmi les principaux organismes forestiers français (INRAE, ONF, CNRS, Cirad, IRD, AgroParisTech, CNPF, FCBA, IGN, MNHN) et l'État représenté par le Ministère de l’Agriculture et de l'Alimentation d’une part, et le Ministère de la Transition Écologique d’autre part.
