Le conseil économique social et environnemental est une assemblée constitutionnelle consultative. Par la représentation des principales activités économiques, sociale et environnementales, le CESE favorise la collaboration des différentes catégories socio professionnelles entre elles et assure leur participation à la définition et l’évaluation des politiques publiques.
Le CESE est principalement investi de cinq missions :
• Conseiller le Gouvernement et le Parlement et participer à l’élaboration de la politique économique, sociale et environnementale ;
• Favoriser, à travers sa composition, le dialogue entre les catégories socioprofessionnelles dont les préoccupations, différentes à l’origine, se rapprochent dans l’élaboration de propositions d’intérêt général ;
• Contribuer à l’évaluation des politiques publiques à caractère économique, social et environnemental ;
• Promouvoir un dialogue constructif et une coopération avec les assemblées consultatives créées auprès des collectivités territoriales et auprès de ses homologues européens et étrangers ;
• Contribuer à l’information des citoyens.
