Centre of Documentation, Research and Experimentation on Accidental Water Pollution
Cedre is a non-profit-making association created on 25 January 1979, as one of the measures taken in the aftermath of the Amoco Cadiz oil spill, to improve spill response preparedness and strengthen the national response organisation.
It is responsible, on a national level, for documentation, research and experimentation on pollutants, their effects and the response means and tools that can be used to combat them.
It is charged with providing advice and expertise to the authorities responsible for responding to accidental pollution.
It is competent both for marine waters and inland surface waters.

Le Cedre est une association à but non lucratif créée le 25 janvier 1979 dans le cadre des mesures prises suite au naufrage du navire pétrolier « Amoco Cadiz » pour améliorer la préparation à la lutte contre les pollutions accidentelles des eaux et renforcer le dispositif d'intervention français.
Il est responsable, au niveau national, de la documentation, de la recherche et des expérimentations concernant les produits polluants, leurs effets, et les méthodes et moyens spécialisés utilisés pour les combattre.
Sa mission est de fournir conseil et expertise aux autorités en charge de la réponse à apporter aux pollutions accidentelles.
Cette mission porte tant sur les eaux marines que sur les eaux intérieures de surface.
