The association, managed by a college council, is intended to ensure the logistics and the financing of projects, in particular thanks to the redistribution of the resources of donations and memberships.

Le Mouvement pour une Frugalité heureuse et créative est né du Manifeste du même nom, lancé le 18 janvier 2018 par Dominique Gauzin-Müller (architecte-chercheur), Alain Bornarel (ingénieur) et Philippe Madec (architecte et urbaniste). Reconnaissant « la lourde part des bâtisseurs » dans les désastres en cours, ce manifeste appelle à développer, à rebours des visions technicistes et productivistes qui n’en finissent plus d’être à bout de souffle, des établissements humains frugaux en énergie, en matière et en technicité, créatifs et heureux pour l’ensemble de leurs habitants et pour l’ensemble du vivant.
En réponse à cet appel, des groupes locaux ou thématiques se sont créés pour mobiliser les signataires du manifeste, puis de grandes rencontres nationales ont été organisées. Le mouvement s’anime aujourd’hui de multiples initiatives décentralisées, proposant visites, conférences, ateliers, formations, publications, partages d’expériences, et de nombreux outils de développement tels que ce site web ou encore la cartographie collaborative des ressources frugales.
Le mouvement est ouvert à toutes et à tous, aux professionnels engagés dans la « métamorphose de l’acte de construire » et la « révolution du ménagement« , mais aussi à tous les citoyens désireux de voir se développer d’autres façons d’habiter nos territoires.
C’est un réseau engagé et bienveillant qui repose entièrement sur les initiatives bénévoles des signataires s’investissant dans les groupes locaux, qui décident en toute autonomie de leurs activités, et qui sont le cœur vivant et actif du mouvement.
L’association, gérée par un conseil collégial, a vocation à assurer la logistique et le financement des projets, notamment grâce à la redistribution des ressources des dons et des adhésions.
