Gateway is also developing as an international aerospace center with aircraft maintenance, modification, testing and pilot training. Currently, more than 40 companies operate at the airport, generating more than $1.8 billion in annual economic activity.

Mesa Gateway Airport is owned and operated by the Mesa Gateway Airport Authority that includes the City of Mesa, Town of Gilbert, Town of Queen Creek, Gila River Indian Community, and City of Apache Junction.
