🚀 From academia to exit: lessons in building biotech success

Yesterday at Campus Biotech, the FONGIT Life Event welcomed Igor Fisch, Chair of FONGIT and CEO & Co-founder of NewBiologix, for a powerful session on what it really takes to bring a product from proof of concept to a successful exit.

Drawing from his journey with Selexis SA, Igor shared how a simple business plan, a compelling story, and strategic decisions led to long-term success. From securing early funding to navigating company growth, his insights were grounded in real-world experience.

He emphasized the importance of storytelling in fundraising, being strategic with capital (especially when hiring), and the need to embrace sales early (even in science-driven fields). Innovation must remain at the core, but products still need to meet real market needs. While IP, trademarks, and licensing are critical for long-term value, one of his striking points was this: “Dealing with people is harder than dealing with science.” That’s why investing in HR and actively building a strong company culture is just as crucial as any technical milestone.
