During The Mobile Network's 'AI in the Network' panel session at #MWC25, Dimitris Mavrakis, Senior Research Director at ABI Research noted that telcos only use about 10% of the data they have access to, giving them a real opportunity to use AI to move their businesses forward. https://hubs.la/Q03gwkLZ0

EDITOR'S UPDATE
AI-RAN Market Update 2025 - Hype, Hope and Hard Questions
What is happening with AI-RAN? This new report from TMN will answer the hard questions.
In 2025 AI-RAN has increased its relevance as a topic of strategic interest for operators, vendors, and tech companies alike, as reflected in the growing membership of the AI-RAN Alliance, which now includes stakeholders across the silicon, AI, software and telecoms ecosystems.
MWC 2025 showcased the momentum, with multiple demos under the AI-RAN Alliance banner and more on independent vendor stands, highlighting a surge in development activity.
Incumbent RAN vendors, in partnership with operators, are investigating GPU and GPU-CPU platforms to underpin AI-optimised Cloud RAN. Meanwhile, new entrants such as SynaXG and Kyocera, along with players like Fujitsu, are positioning themselves to benefit from the potential disruption.
Notably, SoftBank has unveiled its own AI-RAN platform and orchestration capabilities, indicating that operator-led innovation is no longer theoretical. Nvidia remains the most vocal proponent, advancing a vision that integrates AI-RAN with AI-as-a-Service and Compute-as-a-Service models — a broader push to redefine RAN economics and deployment paradigms.
Yet for all the energy, the business case for AI-RAN remains under debate. Is this a transformational leap, or merely the latest iteration of the long-anticipated Mobile Edge Compute model?
TMN’s AI RAN Market Update will explore:
• Operator sentiment: which operators are driving AI-RAN, and who
• Nvidia’s role: AI-RAN catalyst, industry competitor, ecosystem developer
• Vendor responses: from co-research to full-stack propositions, how are vendors responding to the AI-RAN dynamic
• Economic analysis: who is tackling the real cost and ROI questions?
• Strategic implications: is AI-RAN a sort of Open RAN redux, a revamped edge strategy, or a fundamentally new business model?
Built on independent editorial analysis and research and first-hand interviews, TMN’s Market Update 2025 will offer a clear-eyed view of the AI-RAN landscape in 2025. Through a blend of stakeholder insights, ecosystem mapping, and data-driven visuals, it’ll cut through the noise to identify who is shaping the market, who is reacting, and who stands to gain or lose.
This is an essential briefing on the state of AI-RAN - its key players and the unanswered questions that will determine whether this becomes telecoms’ next major architectural shift, or another blurred vision.

AI and the fight for data control
The battle to for control of network data and AI Net ops is being fought right now.
“The war that’s being fought is really about who gets that data, because that’s the game.”
“That’s been a big revelation for us; that the telcos are really pushing for an open, level playing field as it relates to AI.”
“We as a telecom industry have been used to managing everything internally. We also realise that that has become little bit of a bottleneck. OK, a lot of a bottleneck.”
