For millions of people worldwide, living with a rare disease means facing a long and challenging journey to diagnosis. Patients can go years, sometimes decades, without answers, enduring:
- Worsening symptoms due to delays in treatment
- Unnecessary procedures that don’t address the real issue
- Misdiagnoses leading to the wrong medications and ineffective care
This is the reality for those with Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP), one of the world’s rarest conditions, affecting just 1 in 2 million people. Like many rare diseases, early and accurate diagnosis is critical to improving quality of life and slowing disease progression.
Meet Nadine Z. Grossmann, a patient advocate living with FOP. Her story is a powerful reminder of why access to the right information, awareness, and early detection matters. 💙
👉 Watch Nadine’s story and join us in raising awareness for #rarediseases today. Because no one should have to wait years for answers.

That’s a Wrap on ViVE 2025 🎬 – Reflections from Nashville
ViVE 2025 in Nashville was an incredible few days of insights, connections, and inspiration. Over the next few days, I’ll be sharing key reflections, but for now, a few standout moments:
🎸 Music Meets Medicine – Nashville is home to the original Gibson, Inc. Garage, where master luthiers handcraft custom shop guitars. As the proud owner (and player) of a Gibson Les Paul ’59 "Murphy Lab" Kindred Burst, it was special to visit the city where ‘she’ was born—combining two of my biggest passions: music and health tech.
👨⚕️ Clinicians in Tech – The highlight for me is always running into fellow clinicians turned entrepreneurs, who are transforming healthcare at scale. One of the most thought-provoking panels this year was "Doctorpreneurship: Tell Me Why" with Shivdev Rao, Angela Fitch MD, FACP, MFOMA, Dipl. ABOM, David Stark, MD, MS, exploring whether physicians can thrive as business leaders.
It was especially great to hear Shiv’s take on breaking stereotypes—his journey from skateboarding to medicine to entrepreneurship resonated with me, as I also started life as a sk8erboi and I think I turned out alright 🤠
Here are some key takeaways:
🔹 From Proximity to Scale – Clinicians impact individual lives; entrepreneurs scale that impact across systems.
🔹 Bias Toward Action – In medicine, we wait for certainty. In business, 51% certainty is enough—speed and iteration win.
🔹 Diagnosing the Problem – Just like in medicine, identifying the root issue is half the battle.
🔹 Keeping Patients at the Center – The best solutions prioritize patient outcomes first.
🔹 ICU & Product-Market Fit – A patient leaving the ICU is like achieving PMF; hospital discharge is cash flow positivity—survival first, then scale.
🔹 The T-Shaped Founder – Clinicians entering startups must stretch beyond medicine, mastering sales, marketing, and operations.
🔹 For Clinicians, By Clinicians – The most impactful innovations come from those who have lived the problems firsthand.
Physicians stepping into entrepreneurship aren’t just breaking stereotypes—they’re redefining healthcare at scale🚀
Also a huge shoutout to my fellow digital clinical and non-clinical colleagues both old and new—it was a privilege to meet, connect, and learn from each of you : Ekanjali Dhillon Paulius Mui, MD David M. Nichols, MD Aaron Wilcox, MD Joshua Liu Charlotte Onsrud Maja Mazur Karol Waluszewski and a very special mention to my new Ada colleague Eric Harker MD 🤗
Look forward to sharing more insights and continuing our conversations!
