We are an applied design fiction studio producing speculative scenarios and critical experience for the upcoming presents.

As designers, we are naturally interested in all the eccentric and almost invisible everyday things happening around us. This transcribes in our way of working where we explore those grey areas through the prototyping of ideas to foster social discussions. We create concrete visions envisaging preferable world, kindly differing from the expected one and acting as a reflection of our current reality. By embedding ethical and social questions in our fictional products, we investigate culture and technology both as pervasive architectures of control and as emancipation opportunities.

As in any design process, we feel the need to gather feedbacks and reactions to evaluate our production. This is why we combine our production with a follow-up on the triggered discussions which act as a complement for speculations and a raw material to iterate on to enrich debates. We seek to open the sources of our speculations, both the research and the outcome, by doing a thorough documentation of our work. We believe in allowing anyone to create their own vision of a topic by reinterpreting our propositions and therefore create alternatives to our alternative.

We also love working with people from a broad range of backgrounds, from experts to unknown individuals. We think that crossing different perspectives is the best way to offer imaginative and relevant productions as well as personally enrich all of the participants of the project.

Design Friction can be understood as a reflexive diary. We share our reflexions about the practice of design in the realm of innovations through a critical lens. As part of the reflexive practice, we likewise apply a critical approach on speculative design itself, by reviewing its opportunities and its limits.
