Founded in 2017, Wayve is made up of a diverse team of experts in machine learning and robotics. We were the first to deploy AVs on public roads with end-to-end deep learning. Today, our teams are based in London and California, and we're testing AVs in cities across the UK.

For more than 50 years, Virgin has had a restless spirit of entrepreneurship, innovation, and market disruption. When we were introduced to an autonomous vehicle start-up (Wayve) a few years ago, we sensed a similar spirit.
Wayve has made huge strides since we invested in 2021. It’s reimagining the AV sector with Embodied AI. The pioneering technology means the AI can drive in any urban environment, anywhere in the world. The team at Wayve has also consistently driven innovation across the AV sector. One example includes its push for self-driving legislation in the UK. It was an effort I gladly added my signature to. The Autonomous Vehicles Act passed in May 2024, with self-driving cars potentially on the roads by 2026.
And this can only be a good thing. Indeed, research shows that a shift to AVs could bring a 93% reduction in accidents by 2040. AVs will also create significant economic growth alongside carbon savings – helping the UK on its path to net zero.
