As prescription drug prices have risen, patients’ adherence to prescribed medications has declined. We are working with Sempre Health to reverse both trends with a program that allows eligible members to save money on prescriptions when they refill their medications on time. Lashusha Thress reminds us that Black identity is beautifully diverse, shaped by unique cultural backgrounds and shared connections. This Black History Month, we honor the many experiences, histories, and voices that make up the Black community. #BlackHistoryMonth
Supporting women in sports encourages confidence, teamwork, and leadership among young girls. For #NGWSD, we teamed up with University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Duke University, East Carolina University, North Carolina Central University and Winston-Salem State University to inspire future generations, and drive positive change—both on and off the field.
The research is clear: Integrated medical and pharmacy benefits make sense for employers. The best care is integrated care.
We analyzed claims data from self-funded employer groups – also called Administrative Services Only (ASO) groups – to compare plans with integrated pharmacy benefits to plans with those benefits carved out.
💲Our analysis showed that in 2022, ASO groups with integrated pharmacy benefits had lower medical expenses by up to 12% when compared to ASO groups who had a separate prescription drug benefit.
🏥We also examined the health advantages of integrated pharmacy benefits and the results were equally impressive. Inpatient care and ED use were down for the population with integrated pharmacy benefits – inpatient care was lower by up to 28% and ED use was down by as much as 13%.
Of course, the patient experience encompasses a range of factors beyond cost and outcomes. There are also the questions of convenience and access. For employees with integrated pharmacy and medical benefits, getting the care and medicines they need is easier. This setup provides them with:
💳 a single member ID card
📞one point of contact for customer services
🧑🏽⚕️holistic care management
💻a convenient digital account
📫easy mail-order pharmacy or retail pharmacy service
This #BlackHistoryMonth, we celebrate the trailblazing achievements of our very own Dr. John R. Lumpkin, a leader who has dedicated his life to advancing public health and improving communities nationwide. As the first African American emergency medicine resident in the U.S., Dr. Lumpkin broke barriers in the medical field and went on to transform health care systems through his leadership and vision.
From his work as the director of the Illinois Department of Public Health to addressing health care quality and childhood obesity at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and his ongoing efforts focused on drivers of health strategy here at Blue Cross NC, Dr. Lumpkin’s contributions continue to inspire generations of health care professionals and changemakers. His career exemplifies the power of innovation, compassion, and advocacy in creating healthier communities for all.
A tribute to Dr. Lumpkin’s historical importance was recently published by The HistoryMakers, an organization that recognizes African Americans, like Dr. Lumpkin, who have made significant contributions to our country. https://lnkd.in/eec-iSzD
