5 years, 5 months agoThe Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) has been providing outstanding care for Victoria's children and their families for over 147 years.
We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.
With a passionate, highly skilled and committed staff campus wide of over 5,000, we provide a full range of clinical services, tertiary care and health promotion and prevention programs for children and young people.
We are the designated state-wide major trauma centre for paediatrics in Victoria and a Nationally Funded Centre for cardiac and liver transplantation.
When it comes to training and research we partner with the very best. Our campus partners, the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute (MCRI) and The University of Melbourne Department of Paediatrics, along with the RCH Foundation, are on site with the hospital in Parkville. Together, we are committed to improving the health outcomes for children today and in the future.
In 2016–17, more than 85,654 children attended our Emergency Department, 322,291 specialist clinic appointments were held which was almost 70,000 more than the previous year, more than 17,000 surgeries were performed and more than 48,552 children were admitted to our wards.
At The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH), we envision a world where all kids thrive. We are committed to ensuring every child and young person has the opportunity to realize their full potential

We are delighted to congratulate our esteemed colleague and friend Professor Robert Weintraub on his recent appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the General Division, as part of this year's Australia Day Honours.
Robert received the honour for his incredible contribution to paediatric cardiology both here at The Royal Children's Hospital and beyond.
He is the lead physician for the Pulmonary Hypertension Programme and has been the Director of the National Paediatric Heart Transplant Programme since 1992.
Robert was also recently named the recipient of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand's prestigious RT Hall Prize for 2024 for his research in paediatric cardiology.
Congratulations Robert!
Another wonderful year walking alongside our colleagues and friends from across the Melbourne Children's Campus (Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI) and University of Melbourne) as part of the Midsumma Pride March yesterday.
The RCH Gender Service first walked in 2017, making this the eighth year we've celebrated with Melbourne's LGBTIQA+ community.
Happy pride everyone! 🌈
Meet Emily, the senior clinician specialising in child sexual exploitation (CSE) at Gatehouse, the RCH’s free, voluntary Specialist Sexual Assault Service.
"I help to break down barriers to accessing specialist sexual assault services for children at risk of or experiencing sexual exploitation. I also help children, young people, and their carers identify ways to disrupt and recover from CSE and provide education and support to carers when children and young people are experiencing or at risk of CSE.”
CSE is a form of sexual violence and child abuse where an adult exploits a child's vulnerabilities. It can involve coercion, manipulation, or forced sexual activity in exchange for something of value. Online CSE is on the rise, where the internet is used to facilitate abuse.
“I have a social work background, starting my career in out of home care services, where I saw how little education and support there is for young people at risk of sexual exploitation. I feel strongly that children who have experienced CSE deserve the same opportunities as all other children.”
“A typical day for me starts at one of our Gatehouse sites, meeting with children, young people, and their families. We identify ways to support them and help them reconnect with their communities, education and interests. We work towards therapeutic goals to overcome past incidents of sexual abuse or sexual exploitation.”
