Depuis plus de 30 ans, l’Anafé agit en faveur des droits des personnes étrangères en difficulté aux frontières ou en zone d'attente. Son action est centrée autour de deux volets :
- opérationnel : assistance juridique, visites des zones d’attente, récolte d’informations et de témoignages, missions de terrain, formations, élaboration d’outils et contentieux ;
- politique : analyse, communication, sensibilisation et plaidoyer.
L’Anafé a une connaissance approfondie des conditions d'accès aux territoires français et européen et des lieux privatifs de liberté aux frontières, ce qui en fait un interlocuteur légitime auprès des pouvoirs publics et institutions, et un référent pour les personnes étrangères, leurs proches et soutiens et les défenseurs des droits.
Elle est la seule association à assurer à la fois un accompagnement juridique et être un observatoire des pratiques de la police aux frontières dans les lieux d’enfermement que sont les zones d’attente.
