The Bank of Canada (BoC) kicked off 2025 with another rate cut.

The central bank just announced it is lowering its lending rate by 25 basis points, bringing it down to 3%.

“I remember the smell of the rice cakes. The feeling of family gathering in my parents' living room. The scratchy traditional outfit I had to wear. And the gifting of money, known as Sebaet-don.

As a kid, I'll admit, the money was my favourite part of Lunar New Year,” writes Kevin Kim, a TD branch manager in North York, Ont.

For Kim, Lunar New Year is still a special time, but how he celebrates has changed a bit.

While he still gathers with his brothers to enjoy a meal, Kim also attends the TD Lunar New Year gala.

“It’s helped me learn a lot about other Asian cultures,” he writes.
