Everyone can attest that marketing and sustainability teams are stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to sustainability campaigns. With a high bar of what information needs to be disclosed in order to avoid greenwashing and an ever-shortening consumer attention span, it seems impossible to create a campaign that has both effective marketing and dodges accusations of greenwashing.

Here's a tip that might help your brand stop greenhushing and take advantage of the demand for sustainable products.

Well done Nursery and Garden Industry Victoria for hosting Greening Cites conference 2024 this week at The University of Melbourne.

I enjoyed sharing some of the research funded by Hort Innovation and hearing from Belinda Bean who outlined the nursery industry campaign ‘Greener Spaces Better Places’.

This year I was determined to open myself up more creatively, as I felt I had lost part of that as my career progressed and I moved into a more corporate environment. How did it make me feel? Short answer (and true answer) not great... I felt restricted with what I could achieve. So what did I do? I started learning how to make ceramics in February, and have been on a clay journey ever since. What does that mean? I’ve been putting some of my time and effort into getting back to making things with my hands and accessing my creative self. It’s given me perspective and time to reflect... and that reflection has led me to ponder questions like the one I ponder here - can compliance and creativity co-exist?
Disclaimer: this has absolutely nothing to do with ceramics... but it does give an insight into what you might need to do if your business is starting on its compliance and disclosure journey. Let’s hope in a world of corporate compliance and mandatory reporting we can still find creative ways to tell our sustainability stories and engage people on the journey to impact. And just like me and my ceramics journey, my key learning: all you really need to do is start.

Sit down. Strap in. Santa has just delivered our end-of-year video.

In our first full year as part of the South Pole family, we’ve helped some of the biggest brands around the world tell their stories in meaningful, impactful ways. And, because sustainability never sleeps, the team are already looking forward to doing the same in 2024.

Happy Holidays, everyone!
