The Méta 2 workshop is a hub of artistic creation in visual arts and urban arts, founded in 1999 by Malik Ben Messaoud, a sculptor from Marseille, and located in the heart of the Saint-Maura district in the third arrondissement of Marseille.

The philosophy of Méta 2 lies in the decompartmentalization between social and cultural and the reappropriation of an artistic culture by the public through the transmission of knowledge, mediation, diversity and the creation of works in public space.
The association's desire is to carry out an ambitious project, namely, a place of production serving artists and participatory projects thanks to cultural equipment allowing the reception of artists in residence, the manufacturing and creation of works linking the territory and the artists. The development approach of Méta 2 is part of these new forms of operation which invite the active communities of a territory within a place deploying different activities and uses. -

L'atelier Méta 2 est un pôle de création artistique en arts visuels et arts urbains, fondé en 1999 par Malik Ben Messaoud, artiste sculpteur marseillais, et situé au cœur du quartier Saint-Mauront dans le troisième arrondissement de Marseille.
Le principe fondateur est à l’origine : l’accès à la Culture pour et avec Tous comme vecteur de cohésion sociale.
Méta 2 a tissé pendant plusieurs années un réseau de partenaires dans l’optique de mettre en œuvre des projets artistiques de médiation dans les quartiers en difficultés sociales et économiques. Le positionnement de l’atelier sur ce secteur de la ville favorise cette orientation du fait de sa grande paupérisation et de son classement en Zone Urbaine Prioritaire.
Aujourd’hui, sous la direction artistique d’Aurélie Masset, l’équipe de Méta 2 poursuit cette recherche d’une forme d’art en interaction avec la « Cité », érigée autour des valeurs de partage, de transmission et de qualité artistique.
La philosophie de Méta 2 réside dans le décloisonnement entre social et culturel et la réappropriation d’une culture artistique par le public à travers la transmission des savoirs, la médiation, la mixité et la réalisation d’œuvres dans l’espace public.
La volonté de l’association est de porter un projet ambitieux à savoir, un lieu de production au service d’artistes et de projets participatifs grâce à un équipement culturel permettant l’accueil d’artistes en résidences, la fabrication et la création d’œuvres faisant lien entre le territoire et les artistes. La démarche de développement de Méta 2 s’inscrit dans ces nouvelles formes de fonctionnement qui invitent les communautés actives d’un territoire au sein d’un lieu déployant différentes activités et usages.
