Créé en mars 2003, le Collectif National des Associations d’Obèses (CNAO) regroupe des associations de patients en France métropolitaine et en Outre-Mer.
Résolument inscrit dans la lutte contre l’obésité, 4ème cause de mortalité dans le monde, le CNAO a pour principales actions de diffuser l’information aux associations de patients et au grand public, d’être l’interlocuteur privilégié des Instances de tutelle nationales et européennes, de participer à la lutter contre la progression de l’obésité, mais aussi d’œuvrer avec l’ensemble des différents acteurs pour une vraie prévention de la maladie et des 19 pathologies associées, de travailler avec les différentes sociétés scientifiques (SOFFCO-MM, AFERO, AFC, etc.) pour une meilleure prise en charge des patients.
L’association participe aux décisions des pouvoirs publics dans l’objectif d’enrayer la progression de l’obésité et souhaite responsabiliser les industries agro-alimentaires quant aux choix des composants et du marketing autour de leurs produits. Le CNAO collabore avec l’ARCOM depuis des années ainsi que dans le cadre de la dernière charte alimentaire ’Janvier 2020-2024’ visant à promouvoir une alimentation favorable à la santé dans les programmes audiovisuels.
La mission de ces patients de la société civile qui constitue le CNAO est d’essayer de préserver au mieux la population, dont les jeunes générations, face à ce fléau mondial.
