🚨 If you buy an alarm system for your house or car, how can you be sure it really works? Unless you’re prepared to smash your window yourself, you can never really be sure.

Cybersecurity alarm systems face similar problems. But in payments, security isn’t an just option: it’s essential to be certain you can detect and respond to threats in real time.

At EPI, we decided to see if our alarm systems were up to the job. We conducted a controlled proof of concept test with Nemesis Breach and Attack Simulation (BAS) to test our SOC readiness and endpoint detection capabilities.

💡 Here are the key Takeaways from Our PoC:

🔹 Scenario-Based Security Testing as required in DORA: we conducted automated scenario-based attack simulations with Nemesis and confirmed our defences are up to the job.

🔹 SOC Readiness: we confirmed our Security Operations Center (SOC) can detect and respond to simulated threats in real-time.

🔹 Endpoint Security Testing: we assessed our Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) solution to ensure it flagged malicious activity effectively.

Why does this matter? 🤔
Deploying more and more security tools isn’t good enough. We must continuously test, validate and continuously improve the effectiveness of our security controls. This Breach and Attack simulation will help us move from assumptions to evidence-based confidence in our detection and response capabilities. Sometimes you just have to smash a few windows!
