In his field of competence, he's mission:

Le Conseil national de l’information géolocalisée est une instance consultative placée auprès du ministre chargé du développement durable.
Dans son champ de compétence, il a pour missions :
1°. D’informer et de conseiller le Gouvernement dans l'élaboration, la conduite et l'évaluation des politiques et de l'action publiques auxquelles concourt l’information géolocalisée ;
2°. D’organiser la concertation régulière des acteurs, de favoriser leur adhésion à des démarches communes et de faciliter la coordination de leur contribution à l’information géolocalisée, aux niveaux européen, national et territorial, avec les pouvoirs publics, les secteurs économique, associatif et académique, la société civile et les utilisateurs ;
3°. De veiller à la bonne articulation des politiques relatives à l’information géolocalisée entre le niveau national et les régions chargées d’assurer la coordination de l'acquisition et de la mise à jour de données géographiques de référence au sein de leurs territoires ;
4°. De mener des missions de prospective, d'expertise, d'étude ou de consultation, en son sein ou en mandatant des partenaires ;
5°. De formuler et de rendre publics des avis, propositions, recommandations, guides ou standards relatifs aux enjeux, à la production, à la qualification et à la diffusion de l’information géolocalisée ;
6° D’organiser les concertations nécessaires au déploiement des grands programmes d’infrastructures de données géolocalisées de couverture nationale en veillant à l’appropriation par tous les acteurs concernés des enjeux et des finalités de ces programmes, ainsi qu’à la bonne utilisation de leurs résultats ;
7°. De favoriser la communication, l’information, l’acculturation et le développement des compétences sur l’information géolocalisée
