The Berlin City Library in Mitte has, among other things, the natural sciences, medicine and economics departments, as does the Berlin Senate Library with local government studies and the law department. The Berlin Studies and the Historical Collections of the ZLB have their own reading rooms and offer extensive holdings on the history and present of Berlin.

Ihre beiden Standorte sind die Amerika-Gedenkbibliothek (AGB) in Berlin-Kreuzberg und die Berliner Stadtbibliothek (BStB) in Berlin-Mitte.
Kern unserer Arbeit das Teilen von Wissen, Bildung und Kultur. Hier teilt die Stadt ihr Wissen, hier teilen wir Medien, Technologien und Raum, hier trifft man sich zum Austausch und Diskurs, hier wird Teilhabe in der analogen wie auch in der digitalen Welt aktiv gelebt. Die ZLB ist eine Stiftung des öffentlichen Rechts, Vorstand ist Volker Heller.
In der Amerika-Gedenkbibliothek in Kreuzberg finden Sie die geisteswissenschaftlichen Fachgebiete und die „schönen“ Künste, Belletristik, Filme, Musik und die Artothek. Hier ist auch die Kinder- und Jugendbibliothek mit dem Lernzentrum angesiedelt.
Die Berliner Stadtbibliothek in Mitte führt unter anderem die Fachgebiete Naturwissenschaften, Medizin und Wirtschaft sowie die Senatsbibliothek Berlin mit den Kommunalwissenschaften und dem Fachgebiet Recht. Die Berlin Studien und die Historischen Sammlungen der ZLB bieten hier mit eigenen Lesesälen umfangreiche Bestände zu Geschichte und Gegenwart Berlins.
Als Berliner Landesbibliothek haben wir den Auftrag, alle in Berlin erscheinenden Druckwerke, Daten und Tonträger zu sammeln.
Die Stiftung Zentral- und Landesbibliothek Berlin entstand 1995 aus der Fusion der Berliner Stadtbibliothek am Schlossplatz im Ostteil und der Amerika-Gedenkbibliothek am Halleschen Ufer im Westteil Berlins.
Zusammen sind wir die am besten besuchte öffentliche Kultur- und Bildungseinrichtung Berlins. Wir wissen – die Aufteilung in die beiden Häuser ist für Sie umständlich und unkomfortabel. Daher planen und arbeiten wir für eine Zusammenführung der Bibliothek an einem Ort.
