The cooperative for sustainable electronics
Commown is a Cooperative that supports fair and sustainable electronics by leasing devices designed to be easily repaired. The electronics industry generates a huge amount of negative externalities, from the mines to the products' end-of-life. Many studies showed that the first priority is to reduce the number of electronic devices made and sold. However, this is not viable for companies that rely solely on the sale of these devices. There is therefore a need for another business model: Hardware as as Service (HaaS). The service includes providing smartphones (e.g. Fairphone), computers, headphones and managing repairs beyond the manufacturer warranty, with a decreasing gradually monthly subscription. Commown also offers free support on the software side. By choosing our service, you extend product lifetime, reduce material waste, and get a cost-effective option for smartphones and other electronics.

La coopérative de l'électronique responsable
COMMOWN, Société Coopérative d’Intérêt Collectif (SCIC), s’inscrit dans le mouvement de l'électronique durable et éthique. Le projet est né à l’été 2016, suite au constat qu’il manquait une structure pour rassembler les consommateurs, investisseurs, partenaires de communication et producteurs tout en possédant un modèle d’affaires cohérent avec des produits à longue durée de vie. Ce modèle d’affaires repose sur la location longue durée sans option d’achat d’appareils inscrits dans une logique d’éco-conception et une démarche plus éthique. Le projet apporte aux producteurs un soutien sur le long terme, aux investisseurs un placement solide et qui a du sens, aux usagers des appareils dont ils peuvent être fiers.
Commown a officialisé son partenariat avec Fairphone en février 2018, et travaille également avec des intégrateurs d'ordinateurs durables comme M2, A2TEO et Whyopencomputing.
