As of 8th November 2024, in response to the ongoing economic challenges facing the industry, we will be simplifying our operations and transitioning our website to become a tech and startup job search engine, powered by Adzuna.

Some key changes that we’re making include the following:

🏢 Startups: You will now be able to register your company and post job ads on the Adzuna platform free of charge. Those jobs will appear on Adzuna and Work In Startups.

👨💼 Jobseekers: The new platform will offer a more comprehensive range of job opportunities, including a vast database of startup, scale-up, and larger company tech roles. To apply or register for email alerts, you’ll need to register directly on Adzuna.co.uk

We’d like to thank you for being part of our community over the years. We appreciate your continued support and we hope the new service helps you with your business and career goals.

Y Combinator co-founder Paul Graham has sparked a debate within the startup community about the way startups should be led.

In a recent essay, Graham challenges the conventional "manager mode" approach that's often pushed in business schools and by advisors. He argues this hierarchical, delegative style can create a disconnect between a founder's vision and their company's execution.

Instead, Graham proposes a "founder mode" style - a more hands-on, involved leadership style that better leverages the unique strengths and perspectives founders bring to the table. This approach focuses on maintaining a strong connection to the company's culture and mission.

While the specifics are still being defined, Graham suggests founder mode may involve elements like skip-level meetings, a stronger emphasis on cultural fit, and a willingness to question the status quo.
The core idea is that founders have invaluable insights and deep business understanding that shouldn't get diluted as their company scales. This paradigm aims to harness those distinctive founder qualities for greater success.

What's your take on this debate? We're curious to hear your thoughts and experiences navigating this leadership challenge in your startup journey.
