Les collectivités mènent un projet ambitieux pour rendre le territoire plus écologique et solidaire afin qu’il soit au rendez-vous du défi du siècle : faire face au changement climatique, tout en veillant au bien-être de ses habitants.
Pour cela, la Métropole et la Ville vont réaliser un niveau inédit d’investissement de 3,5 milliards d’euros durant la mandature 2020-2026.
Parmi les projets phares, on peut notamment citer :
- la stratégie mobilité 2025 : 5e ligne de tramway, 5 lignes de bus à haut-niveau de service (bustram), réseau express vélo de 235 km ;
- la gratuité des transports en commun ; Montpellier sera fin 2023 la plus grande métropole d'Europe à instaurer cette mesure pour la transition écologique et le pouvoir d’achat qui va révolutionner les usages ;
- Montpellier « ville parc » avec la création de plusieurs parcs et Agriparcs et la plantation de 50 000 arbres ;
- l’embellissement de l’espace public avec un vaste plan d’extension du centre-ville et la rénovation de la comédie-esplanade mais aussi de nombreux projets de « quartiers apaisés » ;
- la ville à hauteur d’enfants où l’éducation est une priorité et où l’espace public est adapté à eux ;
- le développement économique avec le lancement de MedVallée pour fédérer l’écosystème de la santé globale, le soutien aux industries culturelles et créatives, la création d’une agence de développement...
- le renforcement de la protection des habitants avec le déploiement d’une police métropolitaine des transports, d’une brigade de sécurité du logement social et le recrutement de policiers municipaux supplémentaires, soit près de 140 agents en plus dédiés à la sécurité d’ici 2026.
