The China IP SME Helpdesk supports European small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to both protect and enforce their Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in or relating to Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. These include trademarks, patents, industrial designs, trade secrets, copyright and geographical indications (GIs). Available to all EU SMEs, SME networks, chambers of commerce and industry associations, the Helpdesk offers a variety of services and information free of charge in the form of jargon-free, first-line, confidential advice on intellectual property and related issues, training, materials and online resources. Individual SMEs and SME intermediaries can submit IP enquiries directly to the Helpdesk via phone, email or in person, getting access to a panel of experts to receive free and confidential first-line advice. We also provide detailed information to be aware of when initiating business dealings with China through a range of simple, cost-effective measures to protect intellectual property and the business. The Helpdesk arranges training events on China IP protection and enforcement in Europe and China, tailored to the needs of SMEs and related to: • general IPR issues, including IP registration and how to establish an IP protection strategy • practical business challenges such as choosing a Chinese business partner • attending a trade fair • licensing • measures to take when importing or exporting goods from and to China The multi-lingual online portal provides easy access for all EU SMEs to Helpdesk information and services, including Helpdesk guides, E-learning modules, event information, and webinar recordings. Materials focus on business aspects such as ‘finding the right lawyer’ as well as specific industries.
