Every year thousands of people in the world sick with leukemia. The Josep Carreras Foundation against leukemia was born in 1988 to contribute to finding a definitive healing for this disease and improving the quality of life of patients. For more than 30 years, we have the challenge of making leukemia, one day, a 100 % curable disease.
Since 1991 we manage, in close collaboration with the Public Health System, the Official Registry of Bone Morder Donors in Spain, Redmo. The transplant from not related donor is the only curative solution for a large part of leukemia patients, since only one in four has a compatible relative. More than 9,000 people around the world have been able to submit to a transplant thanks to the investigations we did every day.
In 2010 we created the Josep Carreras (IJC) Leukemia Research Institute, one of the few centers in the world monographically dedicated to leukemia and other cancer diseases of blood. The IJC aims to promote the development of research in the field of Onco-Hematology, expedite the application of new treatments, improve the assistance and survival of patients, contribute to the formation of new researchers and establish synergies with other national and international research groups.
Support for the patient and his family is decisive. Therefore, we have six reception floors for patients with limited economic resources who have to move away from home to receive treatment. In addition, through our doctor's consultation service, we answer all doubts or questions to which the patient and his environment face during the different processes of their treatment and recovery.

Imparables contra la leucemia
Cada año miles de personas en el mundo enferman de leucemia. La Fundación Josep Carreras contra la Leucemia nació en 1988 para contribuir a encontrar una curación definitiva para esta enfermedad y mejorar la calidad de vida de los pacientes. Desde hace más de 30 años, tenemos el desafío de conseguir que la leucemia sea, algún día, una enfermedad 100 % curable.
Desde 1991 gestionamos, en estrecha colaboración con el sistema de sanidad público, el registro oficial de donantes de médula ósea en España, REDMO. El trasplante procedente de donante no emparentado es la única solución curativa para una gran parte de los pacientes de leucemia, ya que sólo uno de cada cuatro dispone de un familiar compatible. Más de 9.000 personas alrededor del mundo se han podido someter a un trasplante gracias a las investigaciones que realizamos cada día.
En 2010 creamos el Instituto de Investigación contra la Leucemia Josep Carreras (IJC), uno de los pocos centros en el mundo monográficamente dedicado a la leucemia y las otras enfermedades oncológicas de la sangre. El IJC pretende fomentar el desarrollo de la investigación en el campo de la onco-hematología, agilizar la aplicación de nuevos tratamientos, mejorar la asistencia y la supervivencia de los pacientes, contribuir a la formación de nuevos investigadores y establecer sinergias con otros grupos de investigación nacionales e internacionales.
El apoyo al paciente y a su familia es determinante. Por ello, disponemos de seis pisos de acogida para pacientes con escasos recursos económicos que han de desplazarse lejos de su domicilio para recibir tratamiento. Además, mediante nuestro servicio de consultas al doctor, respondemos a todas las dudas o preguntas a las cuales se enfrenta el paciente y su entorno durante los diferentes procesos de su tratamiento y recuperación.
