PRIMES a pour vocation à soutenir et renforcer la recherche et les développements technologiques, nécessaires à l’innovation et la compétitivité dans les domaines de l’électronique de puissance et du management de l’énergie.
Depuis février 2001, le laboratoire commun PEARL, devenu la plate-forme d'innovation PRIMES en novembre 2008, développe une recherche sur les technologies d'intégration des convertisseurs d'énergie.
Le domaine d’activité de PRIMES est l’intégration de l’électronique de puissance et le management de l'énergie.
L’intégration de puissance fait appel à un assemblage de compétences approfondies dans différents domaines : environnement et utilisation du semi-conducteur de puissance et numérique, architecture des systèmes électronique de puissance et de contrôle commande, thermique, matériaux, fiabilité des matériaux, maîtrise des phénomènes physiques couplés : thermomécanique, électrothermique, électrodynamique, électromagnétique, techniques de fiabilisation et process industriels.
L’objectif majeur de PRIMES est d’être un Centre de Ressources Technologiques (label CRT) maîtrisant tous ces domaines en s’appuyant sur un réseau de laboratoires et d’industriels (favorisant la dynamique recherche scientifique de la région et ouvert à d’autres compétences hors région) pour concevoir, étudier, réaliser et tester certaines parties des démonstrateurs de systèmes de conversion, embarqués et/ou stationnaire, avancés utilisant les technologies du futur.
PRIMES dispose de moyens technologiques propres et accompagne directement les entreprises (GG, TPE/PME...) pour le développement de leurs activités par le biais d’innovation et de prestations technologiques. Conformément à son ambition, la plateforme est ouverte à toute entreprise ou organisme.
