El CTFC, con sede en Solsona (Lleida) es un centro público de investigación. Nació en 1996, bajo la forma jurídica de consorcio, y actualmente está formado por el Consell Comarcal del Solsonés, la Universidad de Lleida, la Diputación de Lleida, la Fundación Catalana para la Investigación y la Innovación, la Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, la Diputación de Barcelona, el Ayuntamiento de Solsona, y la Generalitat de Catalunya.
Actualmente, la institución cuenta con una plantilla de un centenar de profesionales científicos, técnicos y de administración y gestión.
La actividad del CTFC no se restringe únicamente a la investigación competitiva, sino que la transferencia de tecnología y del conocimiento y la formación, que representan un importante volumen de su actividad, valorizan sus resultados.
