Créé en 1794 «pour perfectionner l'industrie nationale», le Conservatoire national des arts et métiers remplit trois missions : la formation, la recherche et la diffusion de la culture scientifique et technique.
Formation tout au long de la vie
Le Cnam accueille près de 85 000 élèves en France et à l'étranger, dans 150 centres d'enseignement. L'offre de formation comprend des cours du soir, des cours en journée, 450 certifications, diplômes et titres RNCP, du niveau bac+2 au bac+5.

Recherche
Le Cnam participe à la recherche technologique et à la promotion de l'innovation. Il regroupe, de façon pluridisciplinaire, une École doctorale et des écoles doctorales partenaires.
