    [Automatic translation follows] News from the IMA, a unique institution at the interface of France and the Arab countries

    The Arab World Institute was conceived in 1980 by Mr. Valéry GISCARD d’ESTAING, President of the Republic, and moved into the current building in 1987, under the Presidency of Mr. François MITTERRAND.

    It is a cultural center, the result of a partnership between France and twenty-two Arab countries: Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Djibouti, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen.

    A foundation under French law, the Arab World Institute was designed to promote and disseminate Arab culture. Today, it has become a true “cultural bridge” between France and the Arab world.

    The Arab World Institute has set itself three objectives:
    - to develop and deepen in France the study, knowledge and understanding of the Arab world, its language, its civilization and its development efforts;
    - to promote cultural exchanges, communication and cooperation between France and the Arab world, especially in the fields of science and technology;
    - to participate in the development of relations between France and the Arab world, by contributing to the strengthening of relations between the latter and Europe.
