Créée en 1986, l'Association française pour l'information géographique est une association neutre et indépendante, qui reflète la diversité et la pluralité des acteurs et réseaux du secteur français de l'information géographique. Think thank fédérant 200 membres, espace d'échange et de réflexion ouvert vers l'extérieur, l'Afigéo promeut l'expertise française en la matière en France et International.
En 2024, l’Afigéo poursuivra ses trois principales missions :
-Animer la communauté française des acteurs et des réseaux de l’information géographique
-Promouvoir le secteur de l'information géographique en France et à l'international
-Représenter la filière et ses différents acteurs et réseaux auprès des instances nationales
Reconnue comme un acteur incontournable du numérique, elle travaille en étroite collaboration avec des partenaires de l’action publique tels que le ministère de la Transition écologique et solidaire, Business France, le CNIG, ETALAB, l’APEC, etc.
