Le premier but était d’aborder un sujet comme le « phénomène guerre » peu développé dans les universités. La thématique conflictuelle est un véritable « caméléon » (pour reprendre une image de Clausewitz). La dimension militaire, même si elle demeure la plus visible, n’est pas l’unique dimension, surtout dans un monde « globalisé » niant le concept d’ « ennemi » : s’y ajoute les dimensions économique, sociale, culturelle, informationnelle, mémorielle... TB a cherché à donner de la profondeur à ces différentes thématiques à travers la constitution de rubriques spécifiques. L’homme moderne est prisonnier du présent, les informations se succèdent à un rythme toujours plus rapide. Le temps court doit être complété par le temps long pour éviter l’aveuglement de l’information immédiate.
