David Dean became a State Farm independent contractor agent to raise awareness about the importance of insurance in his community.

"Insurance is not a widely discussed topic within my community. Often, we overlook its value because of a lack of education, misinformation, or distrust. My goal is to engage in meaningful conversations, with as many people as possible, to ensure they understand the importance of being properly protected.

"What I value most in this career is the ability to personalize State Farm products to fit the diverse needs of customers. By getting to know individuals, I can offer insight into the personal benefits of specific policies that are customized to their needs."

In observance of Black History Month, David shares his heartfelt reflections.

"This month is a time to pause and reflect on the countless contributions of those who came before me. It is a time to reflect on all that we have overcome and achieved, encouraging me to look forward with hope and determination.”

Duane Tolbert reflects on how his family history has guided him toward a career as a State Farm independent contractor agent.

"My grandfathers were honorable men who served our country during WWII, a time when African Americans faced significant challenges and had limited representation. They taught me the importance of keeping promises and finding joy in life, no matter the obstacles.

"My parents were the foundation of my journey. Born during a time marked by segregation, they instilled in me a strong work ethic, determination, humility, and a deep respect for all individuals."

This philosophy has profoundly shaped Duane's growth and is evident in both his personal and professional endeavors.

"State Farm entrusts me with the responsibility of caring for their customers while allowing me to run my business according to the values my family instilled in me. I hold a deep respect for Black history and those who sacrificed so much so I can have opportunities like this – I am blessed because of it."
