5 years, 7 months agoHackIllinois is a 36-hour event where college students from across the country contribute to open source projects.
HackIllinois is the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign’s student run hackathon that ran its inaugural event in 2014 with the intention of bringing together a group of motivated and intelligent student hackers from all over the country. The event is 36 hours long and provides a platform for students to learn from the nation’s best via speakers, mentors companies, and workshops. Attendees will be able to choose teams and projects based on their interests, and prizes will be given to the top finalists. Over the past few years, HackIllinois has grown and gained recognition as the diversity of attendees expands and the projects become more and more complex, ultimately becoming the first collegiate hackathon focused on Open Source.
Last year, we hosted projects such as Gulp JS, Apache Airavata, Jupyter, and more and had 3 amazing speakers from the Open Source community. All of our in house tools and infrastructure were also open sourced so that other hackathons can benefit from our endeavors.
HackIllinois returns in February 2018 and aims to build upon our success last year as an Open Source hackathon. Our mission is to foster collaboration and a sense of community while introducing the next generation of students to Open Source. Come join us at HackIllinois 2018 as we celebrate the best year yet!
