Value proposition

TerrorEvents has originally been created as a Twitter account and was started in Belgium on December 4, 2015. The account reports on all kinds of terrorism related news, background and investigations. The account became known thanks to the live reporting on major ongoing terrorist attacks worldwide. The reporting is done in realtime and in English.

Background
TerrorEvents was created to give a wider overview of terrorist and rebel attacks worldwide, due to a lack of coverage in the western main stream media. The reporting has a very wide scope, including but not limited to left wing terrorism, right wing terrorism, religious terrorism, state (sponsored) terrorism and cyber terrorism.

The content of the account is not created by journalists, but by (an) individual(s) with an extensive background in counter-terrorism, having attended classes at some of the most renowned universities and institution lecturing (counter-) terrorism.

TerrorEvents groups the most important articles on (counter-)terrorism that are published by media outlets, universities and other institutions on a daily basis. People using the account will always find the information in the same structured way: country - city - title - link to the article.

When a major terrorist attack occurs, TerrorEvents brings live updates on the incident. The information published during an attack can change due to new developments and newly available information. Sources used during ongoing incidents include own information gathering, law enforcement and intelligence sources, official statements, eyewitnesses and other own background knowledge.

TerrorEvents is also the first ever to have published a complete overview of all terror threat levels of all countries within the EU28. Such overview did not exist until that point. The levels mentioned in the overview have been provided and/or checked by each individual member state of the European Union, either by the police department or an intelligence agency.
