La Confederación SALUD MENTAL ESPAÑA es una entidad sin ánimo de lucro y de interés social que surgió en 1983. En la actualidad, integramos a 18 federaciones autonómicas y asociaciones uniprovinciales, las cuales agrupan a más de 340 asociaciones y suman más de 60.000 socios y socias en todo el territorio estatal.
Nuestra misión es mejorar la adopción de todas las medidas que contribuyan a la mejora de la calidad de vida de las personas con trastorno mental y la de sus familias, defender sus derechos y representar al movimiento asociativo creado en torno a la salud mental.
La Confederación tiene como visión consolidarse como organización líder en salud mental y como el movimiento asociativo que une a todas las personas con trastorno mental y a sus familias, así como las asociaciones en que se organizan, estimulando un modelo de atención de base comunitaria y generando mecanismos de inclusión social y aceptación de la diversidad.
SALUD MENTAL ESPAÑA y sus entidades miembro se reconocen como un movimiento de acogida, de apoyo, de autoayuda, de atención y de representación de las personas con trastorno mental y sus familias, que proyecta interna y externamente un discurso normalizador del trastorno mental.

Premio “Institución del Defensor del Pueblo” (2016).
Medalla de Bronce al Mérito Penitenciario que concede el Ministerio de Interior (2008).
