Corporis Medical focuses on the development and commercialization of innovative surgical devices.

Corporis Medical is a start-up company that focusses on the development and commercialization of innovative medical devices that improve outcomes of surgical interventions.

Our founder is dr. Alexander Veenhof, surgeon at the NKI-AvL who specializes in oncologic surgery in the thorax, esophagus, stomach and adrenal gland. His experiences in the operating room are the inspiration for the devices we develop.

We are currently working on bringing two devices to the market: LaprixaTM and MedicloseTM.

LaprixaTM is the world’s smallest tissue blood pressure measuring device, which offers the surgeon a uniquely patient-specific, quantitative, objective, and intraoperative prediction of the wound healing capacity of bowel tissue when performing an anastomosis. If this anastomosis is not adequately supplied with blood, the tissue will not heal sufficiently. This can result in an anastomotic leakage, where intestinal contents could enter the abdomen, which is a life-threatening complication. With this device, the surgeon will be able to adequately judge whether the bowel tissue has a good chance of healing after the surgery. Read more about LaprixaTM on our website.

MedicloseTM was developed to improve the surgeon’s ability to close the essential fascia layer in the patient’s abdominal wall after laparoscopic surgery. This layer is difficult to close manually, as is done today. because the fascia is situated deep in the abdominal wall tissue and the incision made during laparoscopic surgery is small. When the fascia is not closed properly, the wound might not heal properly, resulting in herniation of the wound with potential dangerous complications as a result.
MedicloseTM is an automatic trocar closure device that closes the trocar induced wound from the inside out, with the needles pointing away from the organs. Our aim with MedicloseTM is that trocar-induced wounds will be closed more safely and effectively. Read more about MedicloseTM on our website.
