The Joint Research Unit 1252 SESSTIM (Economic and Social Sciences of Health and Medical Information Processing) is headed by Professor Roch GIORGI and is supervised by: Aix-Marseille University, Inserm and IRD.
The members of SESSTIM work collectively to contribute to the improvement of knowledge and know-how, health and well-being for society and its populations.
The researchers of SESSTIM participate in research work related to social and societal issues and contribute to developing methodological advances. Three research teams in Human, Economic and Social Sciences (SHES) are focused on applications in the field of:
- cancers (CANBIOS Team),
- infectious diseases and addictions (SanteRCom Team),
- medical information processing (QuanTIM Team).
SESSTIM is also responsible for second-cycle university teaching as part of the MASTER Public Health distance learning course, organized by the Faculty of Medical and Paramedical Sciences of the University of Aix-Marseille.

- EISIS - Expertise and Engineering of Health Information Systems
- MQERS - Quantitative and Econometric Methods for Health Research.
SESSTIM is a partner of the Regional Health Observatory (ORS-PACA), the Assistance-publique hôpitaux de Marseille (AP-HM), the Paoli-Calmettes Institute (IPC), the Mediterranean Infection University Hospital Institute (IHU), the Center for Epidemiology and Public Health of the Armed Forces (CESPA) of the LABEX Aix-Marseille School of Economics (AMSE).
The laboratory is also associated with the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health (New York) as part of the International Associated Laboratory (LIA) Social Sciences, Health Policy and Public Health labeled by Inserm.

Sciences Economiques et Sociales de la Santé et Traitement de l'Information Médicale
L'Unité Mixte de Recherche 1252 SESSTIM (Sciences économiques et sociales de la santé et traitement de l’information médicale) est dirigée par le Professeur Roch GIORGI et a pour tutelles : Aix-Marseille Université, l'Inserm et l'IRD.
Les membres du SESSTIM œuvrent collectivement pour contribuer à l’amélioration des connaissances et des savoirs, de la santé et du bien-être pour la société et ses populations.
Les chercheurs du SESSTIM participent à des travaux de recherche liés à des enjeux sociaux et sociétaux et contribuent à développer les avancées méthodologiques. Trois équipes de recherche en Sciences humaines, économiques et sociales (SHES) sont centrées sur des applications dans le domaine :
- des cancers (Equipe CANBIOS),
- des maladies infectieuses et addictions (Equipe SanteRCom),
- du traitement de l’information médicale (Equipe QuanTIM).
Le SESSTIM assure également la responsabilité d’enseignements de second cycle universitaire dans le cadre du MASTER Santé Publique parcours à distance, organisé par la Faculté de Sciences Médicales et Paramédicales de l’Université d’Aix-Marseille.
