Securing Britain’s Energy
National Gas is one organisation, formed of three businesses – National Gas Transmission, National Gas Services and National Gas Metering.
We own and operate the National Transmission System (NTS), taking gas from its various entry points to the country (whether domestic, liquefied natural gas, or interconnectors from continental Europe) and delivering it to where it is needed. Without us, gas has no mechanism to enter Britain and eventually reach the end user, whether power stations, energy intensive industries, households or for export.
We are responsible for transporting gas to more than half a million businesses, 23 million homes and more than 30 power stations. The current NTS comprises nearly 5,000 miles of high-pressure pipes, driven by a fleet of over 60 gas compressors.
We employ more than 1,800 people directly, while indirectly we support hundreds of thousands of jobs in industries which rely on gas for their operations. Without gas, these businesses cannot keep the economy moving and their future growth will be at risk.
