⚖️ HUMANITY. IDENTITY. REPRESENTATION.

In a courtroom in New York, the future appeared. Not as a witness, but as an avatar.

AI entrepreneur Jerome Dewald, citing health-related challenges, used an AI-generated avatar to argue his own case before the appeals court. What followed wasn’t a conversation on accessibility, innovation, or digital personhood. It was outrage.

The presiding judge accused Dewald of misleading the court and using the moment for business gain—only learning afterward that the avatar was synthetic.

But this incident wasn’t a deception. It was a signal.

A signal that our legal systems, and much of our public governance, are unprepared for the cognitive shift already underway. A signal that #form is still being prioritized over #function, and that the deeper questions about digital identity, synthetic presence, and human-machine augmentation are being ignored, not addressed.

We cannot govern a new era using outdated instincts.

The official Africa Declaration on Artificial Intelligence, signed during the Global AI Summit on Africa, is more than a document. It is a powerful, intentional step towards a sovereign, inclusive, and ethical AI future for the continent... and beyond.

Africa is not waiting. Africa is leading.

With 1.5 billion people, the youngest population on Earth, the richest mineral resources in the world, and an unmatched cultural and cognitive wealth, Africa holds the keys to the future of global innovation. This declaration makes it clear: the continent is no longer content to power the world from the shadows. It is claiming its rightful seat at the table.

The Declaration lays out a bold framework:
🔹 Talent pipelines built on African terms, rooted in AI literacy and global competitiveness.
