Oscillum is a biotechnology company that develops sensors for the agri-food industry. Founded in Alicante (2019), Oscillum has developed SmartLabel, a smart label that is placed in contact with food and is capable of alerting about the state of decomposition/freshness of that product through a simple color change.
The label is conceived as a functional material and with it we aim to reduce food waste without harming the health of consumers.
Why food waste?
Our main objective at Oscillum is to make the food value chain more sustainable, and one of the major current problems is the food waste that it generates:
• Emissions of 3,500 Mt CO2 per year worldwide.
• Loss of material and economic resources.
This waste could be reduced if the consumer has the information they need about these foods, and with SmartLabel we can achieve this.
We currently work with fresh products, specifically meat and fish. In the near future we plan to adapt the technology to other fresh products such as dairy products, fruit and vegetables, as well as processed or even pre-cooked products.
SmartLabel brings value to both consumers and the different stakeholders in the agri-food industry. It is a tool that will allow you to demonstrate the quality of your products on the shelf, but it is also a tool that will help you know the state of the food in your stock, which will allow you to have a faster response to batches. With SmartLabel we improve the shopping and consumption experience, and as it is an eco-innovation and food safety tool, it will generate more value in the products that incorporate it, making them more attractive to consumers.

Oscillum es una empresa biotecnológica que desarrolla sensores para la industria agroalimentaria. Fundada en Alicante (2019), Oscillum ha desarrollado SmartLabel una etiqueta inteligente que se coloca en contacto con los alimentos y es capaz de alertar sobre el estado de descomposición/frescura de ese producto mediante un simple cambio de color.
La etiqueta se concibe como un material funcional y con ella pretendemos reducir el malgasto de alimentos sin perjudicar a la salud de los consumidores.
¿Por qué el malgasto de alimentos?
Nuestro principal objetivo en Oscillum es hacer la cadena de valor de la alimentación más sostenible, y uno de los grandes problemas actuales es el malgasto de alimentos que genera:
• Emisiones de 3500 Mt CO2 al año a nivel mundial.
• Pérdidas de recursos materiales y económicos.
Este malgasto podría reducirse si el consumidor tiene la información que necesita acerca de esos alimentos, y con SmartLabel podemos conseguirlo.
Actualmente trabajamos con productos frescos, más concretamente carnes y pescados. En un futuro cercano tenemos planteado adaptar la tecnología para otros productos frescos como pueden ser los lácteos, frutas y verduras, así como productos procesados o incluso pre-cocinados.
SmartLabel aporta valor tanto a los consumidores como a los diferentes stakeholders de la industria agroalimentaria. Es una herramienta que permitirá demostrar la calidad de sus productos en el lineal, pero además es una herramienta que le ayudará a conocer el estado de los alimentos de su stock que le permitirá tener una respuesta más rápida sobre los lotes. Con SmartLabel mejoramos la experiencia de compra y consumo, y al ser una herramienta de ecoinnovación y seguridad alimentaria generará más valor en los productos que lo incorporan siendo más atractivos para los consumidores.
La tecnología base de Oscillum es muy versátil, con nuevas aplicaciones para empresas a nivel de control logístico o verificación de que los procesos internos.
