1 year, 7 months ago[Automatic translation follows] ASTIC members are the main road transport companies for goods and passengers in Spain
The International Road Transport Association (ASTIC) was founded in 1960 and is the oldest of the Spanish freight transport companies' organisations and the second oldest for passengers. The non-profit organisation was created to look after the interests of freight and passenger transporters, both nationally and internationally. It currently has the most important freight and passenger transport companies in Spain among its members.
ASTIC has always adapted to the requirements of its members and to temporary circumstances; this has been the case since its inception when it was established in 1960 as the guarantor of the TIR Regime in Spain, and in 1986, of the Community Transit Regime.
ASTIC has held constant meetings with the Administration in order to negotiate the International Road Transport Agreements, which has promoted the presence of Spanish companies in Europe.
Following Spain's accession to the then European Economic Community, ASTIC has intensified its activity to try to improve the operating conditions of its member companies, offering its experience and knowledge of the problems of external traffic, its relations with homologous organisations abroad, and a wide range of services to improve their competitiveness.
Thus, ASTIC offers legal and technical advice, information on new regulations or events affecting international transport, as well as TIR Carnets and Plates and flat-rate community guarantees.
The association has been integrated since its beginnings in the International Road Transport Union (IRU), based in Geneva and founded in 1948, where it brings together 172 members from 74 countries, which gives it the greatest representation within the road transport sector. It currently holds the status of Consultative Body before the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.
