The Ocean is one and global, it regulates the climate, nourishes and protects humanity. Let's join forces to preserve it
Ocean As Common is a citizens’ initiative whose goal is the recognition at the United Nations level of the Ocean as a common good of Humanity. It was born in light of the following realisations: the ocean is one, it is global and continuous. We benefit from the resources it offers, be it to heal or to nourish ourselves. The ocean is a treasure for humanity, et today it is under threat.
It is time that we see from a different perspective what makes our 'blue' planet : a single ocean, which must be considered a common good of all humanity, so that the safeguarding of the life that resides in it may become the responsibility of all.
Ocean As Common was conceived as an appeal written in 2018 by Catherine Chabaud, navigator, ex-commissioner for the sea and coastline, and recently elected Member of the European Parliament ; Françoise Gaill, Research Director emeritus at the CNRS and oceanographer, and Eudes Riblier, President of the French Institute of the Sea.
