Créé en 1986 par les entreprises du Commerce et de la Distribution, Mercatel est un think tank à vocation opérationnelle regroupant parmi ses adhérents toutes les formes de commerce, les établissements bancaires et financiers, les industriels et prestataires, les sociétés de services informatiques, éditeurs de logiciels, sociétés de conseil, les organisations professionnelles...autour des enjeux technologiques du front office du commerce de détail, de l’encaissement et du paiement à plus généralement à l’ensemble du parcours client.
Les missions de Mercatel portent sur 3 axes principaux :
- Comprendre et anticiper les grandes évolutions en cours et à long terme pour en maîtriser les enjeux et permettre l’adaptation des organisations et des outils
- Contribuer avec l’ensemble des parties prenantes et tous les organismes et autorités français et européens concernés, à faire émerger des standards et proposer dans un mode collaboratif, des voies de convergence facilitant l’adoption des nouvelles technologies ;
- En collaboration avec l’ensemble des Fédérations et organisations professionnelles, porter la voix du commerce pour que les besoins et les contraintes sectorielles soient pris en compte dans les évolutions législatives, techniques et les règles de sécurité.
