Born in 1946, under the name of Amicale Laïque Basket, the club became AS Ronchin-Thumesnil in 1965. On April 5, 1995, Servais TOMAVO took over the presidency of the club which was then called La Mélantoise Basket. After a championship title in National 3, the club merged with Lille Université Club and became Lille Métropole Basket Clubs. In 2009, a year after joining the Palais Saint Sauveur in Lille, the club was champion of National 1 and entered the professional world. Après un titre de champion en Nationale 3, le club fusionne avec le Lille Université Club et devient le Lille Métropole Basket Clubs. En 2009, un an après avoir rejoint le Palais Saint Sauveur de Lille, le club est champion de Nationale 1 et débarque dans le monde professionnel. Pour sa première saison, il termine troisième derrière Pau et Limoges et goûte aux Play-off. Dans la foulée, la section professionnelle se structure en SASP tandis que l'association support est restée en Association-Loi 1901 et joue ses matchs à Fâches-Thumesnil. Après plusieurs saisons en dents de scie, le LMB regoûte aux phases finales en 2016. Il reproduira ce résultat en 2017 après une saison régulière conclue au troisième rang. Club aux valeurs bien ancrées de convivialité et de travail, le LMB ambitionne de disputer saison après saison les playoffs afin de consolider son budget, se structurer et pérenniser sa présence dans le top 25 français.
