Compensate Foundation is a non-profit expert organization that has been strengthening the integrity of voluntary carbon markets and highlighting their key challenges since 2018. The foundation is an internationally recognized thought leader in carbon market issues and has recently expanded its activities to include biodiversity markets.

The Compensate Foundation views market-based mechanisms as essential tools in addressing the climate crisis and biodiversity loss but emphasizes the crucial importance of effective rules and regulations. The foundation engages in advocacy work, provides expert knowledge on markets, and develops tools to help companies utilize these markets responsibly.

The foundation works closely with policymakers, authorities, market standard organizations, suppliers, and NGOs that share its vision of more sustainable markets. Its activities are entirely funded by donations, with major supporters including the Kone Foundation, the TAH Foundation, and Relex Foundation.
