CEPES, es una organización empresarial, de ámbito estatal y máximo representante de la Economía Social en España. Bajo su paraguas se aglutina el 90% de todo el tejido empresarial de la Economía Social representado por sus 31 socios miembros, todos ellos máximos representantes de las Entidades que conforman la Economía Social en España (cooperativas, sociedades laborales, mutualidades, empresas de inserción, centros especiales de empleo, cofradías de pescadores y asociaciones del sector de la discapacidad).
Los socios de CEPES tienen representación en el territorio a través de 200 asociaciones que representan y defienden los intereses de las más de 43.000 empresas y entidades de Economía Social que existen en España, de los más de 2.215.000 empleos directos e indirectos, es decir, el 12,5% del empleo.
Un tejido económico cuya facturación representa el 10% del PIB del Estado Español.
Un sector que cuenta también con una fuerte implantación social; un 40% de la población española está vinculada a alguna entidad de la Economía Social, superando los 20.000.000 personas.
Es un tejido empresarial presente en todos los ámbitos económicos, con empresas de todos los tamaños, desde pequeñas empresas a grandes grupos empresariales y que se ha consolidado en los últimos años como un instrumento clave para dinamizar la economía y crear empleo estable y de calidad. Un modelo empresarial que convive con otros tipos de empresa en el mercado y que todas ellas cuentan con sus legislaciones que les permite ser reconocidas en el mercado.
Muchas de estas empresas son líderes a nivel mundial, europeo, estatal y local.
