Whether they are on the southern or northern shores of the Mediterranean, women are courageously getting involved and moving their societies towards greater peace and equality. It was to support them that in 2008, 4 women created the Mediterranean Women's Fund.
Without financial capital at the start, they managed to bring together a team around them capable of raising funds to support associations that help women escape exclusion, fight against violence against women and strengthen the capacities of young women so that they can become leaders in their societies.
Today, the Mediterranean Women's Fund finances hundreds of projects in around twenty Mediterranean countries. But there is still a long way to go.

The MedWF aims at improving women's lives, promoting gender equality and strengthening the women’s movement, through:
- Grant-making to grassroots women's organizations
- Feminist Trainings in Collective Intelligence: reinforcing the personal capacities of young women leaders and promoting collective intelligence, by inviting participants to analyze power relations, build self-esteem and learn how to work together.
- Advocating for additional funding for women's rights associations, from private foundations and corporations, as well as individual donors.

Qu’elles se trouvent sur la rive sud ou nord de la Méditerranée, des femmes s’engagent avec courage et font progresser leurs sociétés vers plus de paix et d’égalité. Leur action se heurte cependant à bien des difficultés dont celle, non des moindres, de trouver les fonds nécessaires à̀ leurs projets.
C’est pour les soutenir qu’en 2008, 4 femmes créent le Fonds pour les Femmes en Méditerranée.
Sans capital financier au départ, elles réussirent à fédérer autour d’elles une équipe capable de collecter des fonds pour soutenir des associations qui font sortir les femmes de l’exclusion, luttent contre les violences faites aux femmes et renforcent les capacités des jeunes femmes afin qu’elles soient leaders dans leurs sociétés.
Aujourd'hui, le Fonds pour les Femmes en Méditerranée financent des centaines de projets dans une vingtaine de pays de la Méditerranée. Mais le chemin est encore long.
Nous savons aujourd'hui que l'élément clé (rapport Mc Kinsey 2015) pour faire progresser nos sociétés vers plus d’égalité est l’apport d'un soutien financier par le secteur public mais aussi le secteur privé. Compte tenu du pouvoir croissant des entreprises dans l’économie mondiale, leur rôle est non négligeable, aussi est-ce essentiel qu'elles s'engagent avec force dans la lutte pour l'égalité.
