The National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products is the public actor that allows, on behalf of the State, access to health products in France and ensures their safety throughout their life cycle. At the heart of the health system, we act in the service of patients and their safety.
We promote access to innovative products via authorization procedures adapted to each stage of the life of the drug before and after it is placed on the market.
Through our assessments, our expertise and our monitoring policy, we ensure that the health products available in France are safe, effective, accessible and well used.
We are 900 employees, spread over three sites: Saint-Denis, Lyon and Montpellier-Vendargues.
We rely on a national, European and global network of expertise and monitoring in compliance with the principles of ethics and transparency.
Our missions
Any health product has benefits but also risks: we talk about a “benefit-risk balance”. Our mission is to ensure that this balance is positive. And this, from the stage of development of a therapeutic innovation.
This is why, in order to facilitate safe access to innovative products for patients, the ANSM intervenes in different ways in order to support innovation and supervise its early, safe and equitable availability.

L’Agence nationale de sécurité du médicament et des produits de santé est l’acteur public qui permet, au nom de l’État, l’accès aux produits de santé en France et qui assure leur sécurité tout au long de leur cycle de vie. Au cœur du système de santé, nous agissons au service des patients et de leur sécurité.
Nous favorisons l’accès à des produits innovants via des procédures d’autorisation adaptées à chaque stade de la vie du médicament avant et après sa mise sur le marché.
Au travers de nos évaluations, nos expertises et notre politique de surveillance, nous nous assurons que les produits de santé disponibles en France soient sûrs, efficaces, accessibles et bien utilisés.

Nos missions
Tout produit de santé présente des bénéfices mais aussi des risques : on parle de “balance bénéfice-risque”. Notre mission est de nous assurer que cette balance est positive. Et ce, dès le stade du développement d’une innovation thérapeutique.
C’est ainsi que, dans le but de faciliter un accès aux produits innovants en toute sécurité pour les patients, l’ANSM intervient sous différentes modalités afin d’accompagner l’innovation et encadrer sa mise à disposition de façon précoce, sûre et équitable.
Nous sommes une agence ouverte, en dialogue permanent avec notre environnement pour éclairer notre action et faire connaître nos décisions.
