Micromagnets for next-generation microsystems
Micromagnets offer the potential to enhance the performance and durability of microsystems, commonly referred to as MEMS. However, traditional manufacturing methods based on powder metallurgy struggle to produce magnets smaller than 1 millimeter.
At Magnetfab, we've devised a groundbreaking solution: leveraging thin-film deposition to create thousands of integrated micromagnets on a single wafer. These micromagnets, often no larger than a grain of sand and capable of even smaller dimensions, represent a size reduction of 10 to 100 times compared to current market offerings. Another aspect that sets our micromagnets apart is that they are made of the strongest permanent magnet material known, namely the NdFeB alloy. Their diminutive size, coupled with exceptional magnetic properties, and fabrication on wafers, make them ideal for MEMS integration.
Potential applications for our micromagnets span various fields, including loudspeakers for earbuds and hearing aids, biomagnetic field sensors, and quantum computer chips. Magnetfab stems from Institut Néel - CNRS Grenoble, capitalizing on 18 years of pioneering research expertise.
