Le Conservatoire d'espaces naturels de Savoie (CEN Savoie, anciennement CPNS) est une association Loi 1901 au service de la biodiversité savoyarde, créé en 1991 par l'État, le Département, des associations de protection de la nature, des établissements publics (Fédération de Savoie pour la pêche et la protection des milieux aquatiques, Fédération départementales des chasseurs de Savoie, office national des forêts, Chambre d’agriculture, Parc National de la Vanoise) ainsi que l’association des maires qui font partie de son Conseil d’administration.
Le CEN Savoie a deux objectifs statutaires :
Technique : sauvegarder et gérer les milieux naturels du département de la Savoie qui présentent une richesse floristique et faunistique reconnue ;
Pédagogique : porter à connaissance de tous publics les éléments constitutifs de ce patrimoine.
N’ayant pas de pouvoir réglementaire ses actions (acquisitions, gestion) ne sont possibles qu’avec l’accord des acteurs de terrain (propriétaires, exploitants, collectivités).
Ses actions s'articulent autour de 5 missions :
Connaître : il conduit des inventaires de milieux (zones humides, pelouses sèches, etc.) ou d’espèces (faune, flore) et réalise des suivis scientifiques pour évaluer l’évolution des milieux.
Protéger : Il utilise différents outils lui permettant de garantir la pérennité de la vocation naturelle d’un site
Gérer : afin de réhabiliter ou d’entretenir des milieux, le CEN Savoie entreprend des travaux de restauration ou de gestion.
Sensibiliser : il propose différents outils pédagogiques comme des expositions itinérantes, projets d’interprétation, chantiers ou sorties naturalistes...
